Bombillas & Gourds
Mate drinking straws
In Spanish, the straws used for drinking mate are called " bombillas ," and in Portuguese, "bombas." They have a kind of filter at the bottom of the straw, which prevents the drinker from swallowing the mate leaves.
The sieve piece.
Most have permanently installed sieves; they are robust, filter excellently, and are great for scraping out the mate cup .
The length.
To be able to drink properly, the bombilla should extend at least 2 cm beyond the mate cup , but not too far, otherwise you will easily get stuck on it and the mate will tip over.

The caámate Cuia.
Probably the simplest way to prepare mate is in the cuia ... perhaps also the most beautiful.
Even inexperienced users can easily prepare the mate infusions, and the intensity can be easily controlled with each infusion.
The cuia has long been the number one drinking vessel for mate in Brazil... usually made from a gourd, it comes in various sizes and shapes and can be admired all over southern Brazil. There, mate is generally prepared with very fine mate powder , which requires some practice. With the caámate cuia, we have created a model that also works perfectly with mate varieties commonly available in Germany. Infusions from the cuia are somewhat milder than those from a calabash, making it very suitable for mate novices.
Try them, you'll love them.
Viva la Cuia.

It's a matter of personal preference which mate cup you choose. We use them all; each has its strengths depending on the situation.
The ceramic gourd.
This ceramic replica is somewhat easier to care for than a traditional gourd. The taste of mate brewed in a ceramic mate is pure and clean, without the slightly bitter aftertaste of a gourd. Some consider this an advantage, others a disadvantage. Furthermore, you can also enhance your mate with oat milk, fruit juice, or sugar, which you shouldn't do with a gourd, as it can mold. One disadvantage compared to a natural gourd is the smooth interior surface; certain brewing methods don't work quite as well as with a natural gourd.
If you use mate a lot When you're on the go, a pumpkin or stainless steel mate cup is more suitable, as it's less likely to shatter and is nice and light. At home or in the office, a ceramic mate cup is beautiful and feels warm and comfortable in your hands.
Ultimately, it's a matter of taste what one chooses.
